The Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District (LSSWMD) Board of Directors have scheduled a meeting for Thursday, Dec. 6. Items expected to be discussed at the meeting include the district’s 2013 budget, and appointing a new chairman of the board for next year.
“We hope to have a budget approved at that meeting. When we changed over, we did a temporary budget so the auditors office could issue pay checks. We have not approved a budget for 2013 yet,” said Tom Reiser, current chairman of the LSSWMD. “We do not anticipate any big changes.”
The LSSWMD Board of Directors recently voted to end its relationship with Lawrence County Community Action (CAO), effective Nov. 9. The staff or the LSSWMD are now considered Scioto County Employees.
“For the past 12 years we’ve been associated with the Community Action Organization of Lawrence County. They’ve provided us (LSSWMD) with good service and a lot of assistance in establishing the district,” Reiser said.
Reiser said he considered the move a business decision. He said the employees now fall under the Scioto County insurance and retirement plans.
Also at the meeting, Reiser said he plans to step down as chairman of the board. Reiser was defeated in his attempt at another term as Scioto County Commissioner in the General Election held earlier this month.
“The members of that board are are the elected commissioners of the two counties (Scioto and Lawrence). We will likely elect a new chairman at the meeting and it will likely go to one of the commissioners in Lawrence County. It will be up to the board to decide who that’s going to be,” Reiser said.
The LSSWMD Board of Directors consists of Scioto County Commissioners, Tom Reiser, Mike Crabtree and Skip Riffe and Lawrence County Commissioners Bill Pratt, Les Boggs and Freddie Hayes. The new LSSWMD office will be located at 109 North Third St., in Ironton.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at Ohio University Southern, in the Ohio Room, 1804 Liberty Ave., in Ironton, at noon.
