Ella Edwards, 89

Ella Mae Edwards, 89, of Portsmouth, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at SOMC Hospice.

She was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Portsmouth, to the late Curna and Bess Burt Edwards.

Ella was a 1942 graduate of Portsmouth High School, a former manager of the Creme Delight Ice Cream shop, and a former employee of Williams Shoes, Selby Shoe Company, Martings, Frish’s Restaurant, and Tan Stand. She later retired from Shawnee State University.

Ella was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Portsmouth.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Price of Portsmouth, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Howard Edwards and a sister, Ruth Huffman.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Melcher Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Janice Elliott officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg.

Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Monday from noon until time of service at 1 p.m.
