Spring Fling is Saturday

The South Webster High School Alumni Association will be having a Spring Fling from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at South Webster High School, 10529 Main St., South Webster. This is a fundraiser event for the SWHS Alumni Scholarship Fund, where currently the alumni association awards five $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors at SWHS.

The day will consist of having carnival style games, inflatable jumpers and popcorn for the kids in the junior high gym, tickets for these games are 25 cents each or five for $1. The high school gym will house over 15 crafters/vendors as well as entertainment on the stage, the entertainment will include SWHS Alumni, the high school Select Sound, Miss Portsmouth Amber Bussa, Miss Scioto Valley Alyssa Hanson, Miss Portsmouth Outstanding Teen Brooklyn Thompson, Miss Scioto Valley Outstanding Teen Savannah Sexton and Miss Southern Ohio Outstanding Teen Kara Beth Wagner, among others scheduled to perform during the day. An silent auction area will be held in the high school gym where participants can bid on items all day, and those with the highest bids pledged by 7 p.m. will be the recipient of the item. There will be food available all day in the high school cafeteria. The evening will close with an auction at 7:30 p.m. with donated items from area businesses, individuals as well as a collective effort from the Bloom-Vernon Elementary students who pooled together to make large gift baskets to be put on the auction block.

Legal clinic is Wednesday

Southeastern Ohio Legal Services will have a public do-it-yourself legal clinic concerning domestic relations issues, including custody, visitation, and name changes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Robert Copley Meeting Room of the Portsmouth Library, 1220 Gallia St.

Required court forms will be provided, and court rules concerning the forms will be explained.

Preregistration is Friday

Northeast Head Start and Greenup County Preschool Programs are now recruiting children for an early enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year. Preregistration will be from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Argillite Head Start Center, behind Argillite Elementary School, (606) 473-9689; McKell Head Start Center at McKell Middle School, (606) 932-9467; and Wurtland Head Start Center behind Wurtland Elementary School, (606) 834-8070; Greysbranch Head Start Center behind Greysbranch Elementary School, (606) 473-0767; and Flatwoods Head Start Center, (606) 834-9312.
