Minnie McKinney, 90

Minnie E. (Snyder) “Queen Minnie,” McKinney, age 90, a longtime resident of Springfield, passed away Nov. 11, 2012, surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy illness at Springfield Regional Hospital. She was born on Feb. 10, 1922, to the late John F. and Nellie M. (Deemer) Snyder in Scioto County, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, Minnie was preceded in death by Gerald R. McKinney; a sister Dorothy Lewis; a brother Jennings Coburn; her second “mother” Ina Nicolet and a dear cousin she considered a sister, Leola Canter; mother and father in-law, Kate and William McKinney. brothers-in-law: Chalmers Poole, Othel Lewis and Charles (Alma) McKinney; a nephew, Merlin Poole; sisters-in-law, Norma Coburn and Wilma (Harry) Brown and 11 half brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children: Marilyn (Roger) Fent Sr., Mindy (Michael) Baumgardner and David (Linda) McKinney; grandchildren: Roger (Amy) Fent Jr., Robert (Amy) Fent, Molly (Nate) Wilson, Kelly Campbell, David McKinney II and John McKinney; great-grandchildren: Jacob and Jordan Fent; a sister Alice Poole; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Minnie was the Salutatorian of her graduating class at Stockdale High School in 1940. She loved nothing more than driving to see her friends and family, especially her mother, back in Minford/Portsmouth, Ohio. She was a hard worker, employed by Robbins & Myers Manufacturing, Kreider Company, Steel Products (Speco) and finished her career at the Ohio Masonic Home as a Pharmacist Clerk. Minnie was an avid sports enthusiast, devoting her time to follow her grandchildren’s sports, as well as playing basketball, bowling and softball; she loved her Ohio State sports, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Cincinnati Reds.

Minnie was a faithful woman, raising her family at First Baptist Church. Minnie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and will be missed by all those who knew her. She was a fabulous cook, getting her family together for a good meal whenever possible. In her later years, Minnie split her time between the homes of her daughters; and was graciously welcomed by her sons-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at ERWIN-DODSON-ALLEN FUNERAL HOME, Minford, Ohio at 3 p.m. with Acy Gibson officiating. Visitation one hour prior. Burial at Bennett Cemetery in Minford, Ohio. Friends may call on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at JACKSON LYTLE & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME, Springfield, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The family would like to thank Dr. Patel and nurse Alisha & staff, Interim Health Care Aides, Nursing Staff at Springfield Regional Medical Center 2nd floor step down unit, Community Mercy Hospice, nurses: Myra, Suzette, and Cindy as well as all of those who attended to Minnie in her final days.
