Christa Nichols, 57

Christa L. Nichols, 57, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at SOMC Hospice.

She was born June 4, 1955, in Portsmouth, to Frank and Ann Applegate Bruch.

She is a 1973 graduate of Portsmouth High School. She later graduated from Shawnee State University in 1991 with an associates degree in nursing.

Christa was a Registered Maternity Nurse at SOMC for 21 years. She was a proud member of St. Mary’s Church where she loved to worship her lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

Christa is survived by her husband of 36 years, Bob Nichols, whom she married on Sept. 11, 1976, two daughters; Laura Napier (Nate) of Minford and Lindsay Conn (Nate) of Wheelersburg, five grandchildren; Issac Napier, Lyla Napier, Mark Napier, Elliot Napier, and Nolan Andrew Conn.

She is also survived by her parents, Frank and Ann Bruch of West Portsmouth, five brothers; Mike Bruch (Patty), Joe Bruch (Susie), Bill Bruch (Carrie), Scott Bruch (Sandra), and Craig Bruch (Andrea), three sisters; Mimi Wallace, Bambi Overacre, and Barb Lopez (Ron), and several nieces and nephews.

Christa was preceded in death by her grandparents; Charles and Julia Applegate and Henry and Georgia Bruch. She was also preceded in death by her only son, Andrew Lee Nichols, who died Sept. 4, 2012.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday Nov. 12, 2012 at St. Mary’s of the Annunciation Church with Rev. Adam Streitenberger officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at Melcher Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. A Recitation of the Rosary will be 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Christa loved her family and spending time with them. Whether it was on an annual vacation to the beach or at home working on her flowers, being with her family was what mattered the most. She will be dearly missed by her husband and daughters, and all of her extended family and friends.

We are saddened to learn of Christa's passing and the loss to her family and friends. Our prayers are with our cousin Bobby and the Nichols and Bruch families.

May she rest in peace.
