County OPW projects completed

In July, the Scioto County Commissioners awarded four contracts for improvement projects valued at nearly $2 million. On Tuesday, Scioto County Engineer Craig Opperman reported that all of the projects are finished.
Projects included the replacement of three county bridges — on Kendall Road in Madison Township, Van Crabtree Road in Morgan Township and Simpson Road in Rush Township.
A contract was awarded to DGM Inc. of Beaver, Ohio, for the Kendall Road bridge replacement, valued at $438,000. J&H Erectors was awarded the contract to replace the Van
Crabtree Bridge, valued at $201,345. A contract was awarded to U.S. Bridge of Cambridge, OH to replace the bridge on Simpson Road, valued at $256,207.
The Shelly Company of Thornville, OH was awarded a contract to pave part of Carey’s Run Pond Creek Road in Washington Township, Downtown Hayport Road in Porter Township, Junior Furnace-Powellsville Road in Green Township and part of Swauger Valley Road. The contract is valued at $834,328.
The county also worked with the village of New Boston on paving Lakeview Avenue and Oak Street.
Opperman said the paving in New Boston was done in conjunction with the opening of the new school.
In total, there were about 8.74 miles of roadway paved.
The projects were funded in-part by a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission.
Opperman said his office has submitted four projects for consideration in 2013. Among the future projects submitted was one for the Otway Covered Bridge. Opperman said he will not know until January if any or all of the projects will be funded or at what levels.
