RUSSELL, Ky. — A body was discovered in a structure fire Thursday morning in Russell, Ky.

According to the Russell, Ky., Police Department, the Russell Fire Department responded to an active structure fire at 2 a.m. Thursday, at 1597 Diederich Boulevard, in Russell. The structure suffered heavy fire and smoke damage.

Once the fire was extinguished, the body of the 75-year-old homeowner, Clarice “Faye” McKenzie, was found inside. The body was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Frankfort, Ky., for further investigation. Russell Police say that at this point there is no evidence of foul play, but their investigation remains ongoing pending the medical examiner’s results.

The Russell Fire Department was assisted by Raceland, Worthington, and Westwoof fire departments. Personnel from the State Fire Marshal’s office, Russell Police Department, and Greenup County (Ky.) Coroner’s office were also called to the scene.
