No. 5 Wheelersburg made sure an upset bid by No. 12 would not come to fruition Tuesday night as the Pirates swept the Dragons in a Divsion III Southeast Sectional Semifinal.


Wheelersburg was led by Sydney Holden with 12 kills and Hannah Duckworth with 39 assists. The Pirates travel Saturday to No. 4 Coal Grove.

Matt Mohr’s goal in the 11th round of a penalty kick shootout boosted visiting Glenwood to a 4-3 win over Ironton St. Joseph in a Division III Southeast Sectional Semifinal match that lasted two days.

James Mohr recorded two goals for the Tigers, who travel Wednesday to top-seeded South Webster.
