Glenwood sweeps East, advances to final

PDT Sports Report

For the second time in seven days, Glenwood defeated East in a volleyball match.

In Monday’s action, the No. 8 Tigers swept the No. 9 Tartans in a Division IV Southeast Sectional Semifinal. Kiersten McGraw led Glenwood with 24 kills, Taylor Baldridge recorded 17 points and Hannah Bender finished with 15 assists to go along with her seven points.

Also scoring for the Tigers (8-14) were Mariah Speas with seven kills and Kaitlyn Fannin with nine points. Glenwood advances to Thursday’s Division IV Southeast Sectional Final at No. 1 South Webster.

The two teams did not play each other during the regular season.

Boys Division III Southeast Sectional Semifinals

No. 7 West 4, No. 10 Clay 1

Host West came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to post a 4-1 win over Clay in a Division III Southeast Sectional Semifinal match Monday.

Aaron Kraft recorded a pair of goals — including the eventual game-winner — for the No. 7 Senators, who now move on to Wednesday’s final at No. 2 Valley. Ryan Blevins was credited with the lone Panther goal in the contest.

Clay finishes the season at 2-15 and will lose Tommy Martin, Tasheena Holcomb and Courtney DeLotell to graduation.
