PDT Sports Report

West made the trip back down U.S. 23 winners of a 29-28 thriller against Waverly Friday evening.

Waverly opened the game with two touchdown passes from Trevon Bolin-Hitchens but West answered with two touchdowns before the opening stanza had expired. Steven Irwin scored on a five-yard run and Dylan Koons added a 56-yard punt return with 1:37 left in the first quarter to make it 14-13 Waverly.

Bolin-Hitchens added a 1-yard touchdown rush in the second and Irwin chipped in another touchdown rush with 26 seconds left in the first half. The two-point conversion tied the game at 21 at the intermission.

A quiet third quarter led to fourth quarter fireworks.

Waverly’s Dilon Miller caught a 31-yard pass from Bolin-Hitchens to give the Tigers the lead, but Austin Bricker’s 40-yard interception return for a touchdown and Alec Meeker’s 2-point conversion rush gave West a 29-28 lead with a little under 10 minutes remaining that the Senators would not relent.

West will host Northwest next Friday while Waverly will will travel to Minford, which lost its first contest of the season last night to Wheelersburg.
