The Vernon Senior Club met on Oct. 3 with 25 people attending the Halloween meeting. Many of the members were dressed for Halloween. James Lawson blessed the meal of fried chicken and many covered dishes brought in by the members. This month the group celebrated the birthday of Shirley Piguet. June Martin, Shawn Stratton, Lisa Buckler and Don Rachford were the guests.
Between the meal and business meeting Phil McGuire and some of the members entertained the crowd.
Our guest speakers were Don Rachford, Shawn Stratton and Lisa Buckler. Mary Book from USSA was present to speak of the things that the seniors need to improve their daily living. Carole Powell read the minutes for the previous meeting and gave the financial report.
Eileen Crawford gave the report on how the new roof is coming along. Many area men are putting it on for us.
Our Octoberfest that was to be on Oct. 13 has been changed to Oct. 20 and will, from now on be called the “Annual Old Fashion Days” in honor of the old building which was built in 1843. the group will be selling food, having an auction, door prizes, corn hole tournament, live music and Sisters of the Heart Many Indian Organization.
The club voted to have a yard sale on election day. The group will also be selling food in the kitchen.
Door prizes were won by Carl Weaver and Larry Wright.
The meeting was closed with a pledge to the flag.
