Everett Chaney, 85

Everett Elmo Chaney, 85, of Lucasville went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Best Care Nursing and Rehab Center in Wheelersburg. He was born Feb. 16, 1927, in Jackson, Ohio, a son of the late Minnie Smith Chaney and Cecil W. Chaney Sr. He was married on April 4, 1947, to the late Virgie Lee (Wilburn) Chaney with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on April 4, 1997. Everett graduated from Washington Rural High School , Class of 1944 in Black Fork, Ohio and served in the U.S. Army.

Everett and his father, Cecil Chaney Sr. and brothers Cecil Chaney Jr. and Loren Chaney were in partnership at Chaney Mining Co. in South Shore, Ky. where they were heavy equipment operators and hauled clay to Pribrico in Firebrick, Ohio. Years later after retiring, Everett and his wife Virgie owned the H & R Block in Waverly, Ohio. After retiring from H & R Block, they enjoyed traveling together visiting family members and friends.

They also enjoyed growing flowers in their yard, gardening and raising their Colley dogs. Everette was a avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and during his stay at Best Care, Everette got the opportunity to meet the former Reds scout, Gene Bennett and truly enjoyed his time with him. Everette is survived by three sisters, Thelma Chandler of Macedonia, Ohio., Shirley Aldridge and Ruth Chaney both of Jackson, Ohio. and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil Chaney Jr., Loren W. Chaney and Don Chaney. A special thanks to Dr. Mouhib Kalo, MD, Dr. David Provaznik and the staff at Best Care Nursing and Rehab Center who provided excellent care for Everette and his needs and making him feel comfortable. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in South Webster with Pastor Larry Moore officiating. Interment will be at South Webster cemetery with military honors by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion. Visitation will be Friday 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at D.W.
