A Portsmouth woman is facing felony drug charges following a traffic stop Friday in Scioto County.
Troopers stopped a 2013 Ford Edge on U.S. 23 southbound, near Lucasville, at approximately 12:54 a.m. for a marked lanes violation. Troopers observed criminal indicators and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 71 grams of crack cocaine and 75 grams of marijuana with a combined street value of approximately $7,500.
The driver, Shahara N. Brown, 30, was charged with possession of crack cocaine, a felony of the first degree.
Portsmouth Post Commander Lt. Karla Taulbee said troopers are trained to look beyond the stop and to always be alert for any drug activity.
“They (troopers) do a great job,” Taulbee said. “They’re paying attention to what’s going on. They’re asking questions of everyone in the vehicle.”
Brown was incarcerated in the Scioto County Jail.
