‘Burg boys fifth, girls 10th at Piketon Invite

The Wheelersburg boys and girls cross country teams were the area’s top finishers in Saturday’s Piketon Invitational, finishing fifth and 1oth respectively.

The Pirates were paced on the boys side by Max Conley, whose time of 17:27.83 was good enough for 16th place. In the girls race, Sarah Willis was 23rd with a time of 21:11.02.

The Redstreaks had the fastest area runners in both events. Kane Dixon finished sixth with a time of 16:55.40 while Shaniah Begley crossed right in front of Willis at 21:09.78.

Fairland’s Raine Wireman (16:25.89) and Zane Trace’s Jessie Proehl (18:35.91) were the boys and girls individual race winners. The Unioto boys won the meet with a score of 66 while the Pioneers’ 53 points was tops on the girls side.

On the boys side, Piketon finished sixth, Minford was 10th, Western came in at 13th, Waverly placed 16th, and Ironton was 17th. In the girls team standings, Waverly was 11th, Oak Hill finished in 13th and Valley was 17th.
