The Wheelersburg Lowe’s is one of the top locations in the nation to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through the sale of Shamrocks.

“Lowe’s is raising money for the MDA Foundation,” Brian Clifford, Lowe’s of Wheelersburg manager, said. Lowe’s locations across the country are selling Shamrocks to help raise money for the foundation.

Locations started selling the shamrocks Feb. 15 and will continue to sell them until March 17.

“So far we have raised a little over $6,400. That put us eighth in the company out of 1,600 locations. This has been great for us, the community has been very generous,” Clifford said.

Green Shamrocks can be purchased for $1, Gold Shamrocks can be purchased for $5 and platinum Shamrocks can be purchased for $100.

“Several businesses in the community have taken advantage of the $100 Shamrock,” he said. “We have been very blessed to be in this community and the people have been very generous.”

Last year, the Wheelersburg location raised $1,100. This year they have set a lofty goal of raising $10,000. Lowe’s as a company in 2008 raised more than $2 million for the foundation.

“All monies raised stays in the local community,” Clifford said.

The Wheelersburg Lowe’s is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. For more information about the program or about ways to donate, call the store at (740) 574-6200.
