The driver of a commercial box truck involved in an accident Wednesday has died from his injuries.

According to Lt. Karla Taulbee, of the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the intersection of state routes 348 and 104 in Morgan Township. Taulbee explained that Freddy Hayes, 75, of Scottown, Ohio, was driving north on 104 in a commercial box truck, when his vehicle collided with a back-end of a pickup truck being driven by Edward Mollett, 39, of Franklin Furnace.

Mollett, along with his passenger and a passenger in Hayes’ vehicle, was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Taulbee said. Hayes’ injuries were more severe, she said, and he was flown to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

Taulbee confirmed that Hayes died Wednesday.

The accident remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and no further information was available at this time.
