The Greater Portsmouth Regional Airport in Minford has received a $150,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for maintenance projects. Paul Brogdon, Manager of the Greater Portsmouth Regional Airport said with the funding, “there will be some taxiway resurfacing and we have a lot of drainage issues that we are going to address with this funding.”

He said the airport has been trying to address various drainage issues for quite sometime.

“That is not something you can do in one year. This is a big place and that kind of work is expensive,” Brogdon said.

He said work is expected to get started on each project in September.

“We have a consultant we are working with on this project, Stantec out of Columbus. They are the ones that will award and manage the contract,” Brogdon said.

Brogdon said once the work is complete it will help keep the airport up to current state and federal standards.

“The FAA and the state aviation department comes in and inspects our airport. We have to keep this place up to standard. This money is going to help us stay within those standards,” Brogdon said.

He said this is a grant that’s awarded every year to the Greater Portsmouth Regional Airport from the FAA.

“We’re on a very limited budget out here. A lot of these big jobs like this are expensive. Last year we used some of the money to repaint the runway and that cost a whole bunch of money,” Brogdon said. “We don’t have the funds to do that. If we’re going to keep our airport up, a lot of these necessary projects cost a tremendous amount of money.”

Brogdon said he is hopeful the upcoming drainage work will make a difference and will be fixed.

The Greater Portsmouth Regional Airport is located at 138 Barklow Road in Minford. For more information, call the airport at 740-820-2700.
