A total of 16 teams competed in Thursday’s Portsmouth Invitational at The Elks Country Club Thursday and at the top of the finishers was Chesapeake with a team score of 316.
Of the local teams, Portsmouth had the best team finish with a score of 332 which was good for fifth place. Wheelersburg was right behind Portsmouth with a team score of 341.
Clay finished 11th with a score of 374, Waverly finished 13th with a score of 381 and Northwest finished 14th with a score of 389.
Notre Dame played in the event, but with only three golfers on the team, did not qualify for placement.
The low medalist was Wheelersburg freshman phenom Mitchell McFarland who finished with a 71. Brent Morgan of Coal Grove had the next lowest individual score with a 71 while Zach McKenna of Warren had a 74.
After McFarland, the lowest individual score recorded by a local golfer was Portsmouth’s Brandon Jones who finished with a 76.
Cameron Pope of Northwest had an 81 while Waverly’s Daniel Heffner had an 82. Clay’s Zach Jackson finished with an 86 tying Ty Hiles of Notre Dame.
