Fluor-B&W Portsmouth LLC, the primary contractor for cleanup operations in the former uranium enrichment facilities at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Portsmouth Site in Piketon, has named Dennis Carr as program manager to replace Jamie Jameson, effective August 18. The appointment was recently approved by DOE.
Carr has served in leadership capacities for Fluor-B&W since award of the company’s contract by DOE in August 2010, most recently as deputy program manager under Jameson. Jameson recently announced he would be leaving the organization at the conclusion of his two-year commitment in August.
“Dennis Carr has been an invaluable resource as we moved through transition and into the initial phases of getting work under way,” Jameson said. “Under Dennis’s very capable leadership, Fluor-B&W will continue to succeed in deploying projects to remediate the outdated facilities safely and carry out our mission of decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) and cleaning up the Portsmouth Site.”
“I look forward to continuing safely executing our work against our D&D plans,” Carr said. “All the ingredients for success are here: a good client, a skilled work force with a strong work ethic, and an involved community. Our work force successfully completed its uranium enrichment mission and is now fully engaged in safely executing the D&D and cleanup of the diffusion facilities.”
Carr is a vice president with Fluor Corporation. He has spent 30 years in environmental restoration and waste management, including experience at DOE uranium mill tailings projects and private Superfund cleanups, and at DOE-Environmental Management sites at Fernald in Ohio and Savannah River in South Carolina.
Prior to the Portsmouth Site project, Carr served as project director for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act work and director of Solid Waste Management at the Savannah River Site. Before his work at the Savannah River Site, Carr served as deputy project director of the Fernald Closure Project. Carr is a registered professional engineer in Ohio. He earned an MBA from Xavier University and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
