Ohio’s representative in Congress Jean Schmidt (R-Miami Township) says the priorities are off in the stimulus bill. Schmidt voted against the bill when it came before the house.
“The jobs they are creating, even if they can create 3 to 3.5 million jobs, each job will cost between $229,000 to $250,000. There is a lot of pork in this bill that should not be there,” Bruce Pfaff, Schmidt’s press secretary said. “The congresswoman would have loved to have voted for a bill that would have created jobs.”
He said the Republicans had an alternative stimulus package that would have created twice the number of jobs nationwide at about two-thirds the money.
“(The Congresswoman) is going to continue to push and move forward in this economy that we are doing the things that are the best priorities,” Pfaff said.
The White House released further details on how many jobs are expected to be created as a part of the stimulus.
In Schmidt’s district (Ohio’s Second Congressional District) the estimate is that 7,800 jobs will be created, as a part of an estimated 133,000 in Ohio.
