Hundreds of people from across the community turned out to Tracy Park for the Scioto Rally For Recovery Saturday.

Lisa Roberts, Public Health Nurse with the Portsmouth City Health Department said the goal of the event was to raise money for addiction services.

“The purpose of the event is to celebrate our past successes and give everyone an opportunity to be apart of this movement to get Scioto County back in a good healthly state of recovery,” Roberts said. “We are having a really good turnout. We have seen a lot of people come out and help volunteer to help make the event a success as well. We have something lined up today for everyone from tots all the way up to senior citizens.”

She said the proceeds from the event will be divided among the addiction treatment providers in the area.

“So far people are already being very generous. As a community we all need to pitch in and get ourselves better, so we can sustain our recovery. And not relapse back to where we were,” Roberts said.

Among those expected to be in attendance at the rally was Orman Hall, Director of the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS).

Activities that took place at the rally included the first Garrett Maloney Battle of the Bands, a Brothers of the Wheel Poker Run, Scioto’s Got Talent and Recovery Rocks.

The main event of the rally was a concert by Scioto County native Rick Ferrell. Also performing were Jake Tolliver and Franklin Furnace native Marti Dodson formerly of the band, Saving Jane.

“I think this is a great event, I am excited about the performance,” Dodson said.

Dodson performed along side Ferrell for a couple of songs.

At the end of the rally, SOLACE conducted a luminary launch.

Roberts said she hopes the event will become an annual tradition to benefit recovery services.
