SOLACE (Surviving Our Loss And Continuing Everyday) — a group created for those who have lost a loved one to a drug-related death — will celebrate the opening of their office with a ceremony Friday morning. A celebration is scheduled at their new location at 2837 Scioto Trail, in Portsmouth, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“This celebration will serve as a grand opening of our office. At the event we are going to have a few guest speakers, including Orman Hall, Director of the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS),” said Jo Anna Krohn, Director of SOLACE.

Hall said in a released statement, “supporting family members who have opiate-addicted loved ones is critically important for the long-term recovery of families and communities. The Portsmouth SOLACE group leads our state in Family Engagement Network development efforts, and I am proud of their accomplishments.”

Krohn said representatives from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, representatives from the Drug Free Action Alliance and representatives of other SOLACE chapters are also expected to be in attendance.

“We are holding this celebration to thank the community for all of the support they’ve given us. This is our way of saying thanks, because we could not have become what we are without the support of the community,” she said.

Krohn said the group has needed a place for a while and is hopeful the space can be used as a resource for the community. The new location on Scioto Trail previously was a pain clinic for a short period of time in the spring of 2011. She said the space will include a memorial room featuring photos of people who have been victims of drug-related deaths.

“We (SOLACE) hope this (office) can be a place where people can come and ask questions, or if someone just needs to talk, we are hopeful they will stop by,” Krohn said.
