Marvin Adkins, 83

Marvin R. “Bud” Adkins, 83, of Portsmouth died Wed. Aug. 1, 2012, at SOMC Hospice Center. He was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Portsmouth a son of the late Lonnie and Evelyn Brisker Adkins. He was a longtime member of New Boston First Church of God, was a graduate of Glenwood High School, a Golden Bear, former New Boston Little Coach and member of Aurora Masonic Lodge # 48 and Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati. He was the honorary driver for the WCG and had many hobbies and loved gardening. He is survived by his wife, Ferol James Adkins whom he married on June 26, 1949, in New Boston; two sons, Donovan Adkins and wife Marilyn of New Boston, Duane Adkins and wife Lesa of Florence, Ky..; two sisters, Lelia (Ed) Ramey of Mesa, Ariz. and Sandra (Bill) Gilliam of Eden Park; three grandchildren, Matthew (Sherry) Adkins, Jessica (Mike) Barber and James Adkins; a sister-in-law, Freida James; a special niece, Gail Gowens; a special cousin, Judy Karshner and several other nieces,

nephews and cousins. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at New Boston First Church of God with Pastors Floyd Smith and Acy Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be Friday 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston and Saturday 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the church.
