The Tri-State Junior Golf Tour wrapped up its 2012 slate Friday with a visit to Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W. Va.

“It’s been a great year with a great group of kids and parents,” Tour Co-Director Jason VanDeusen said. “It was very successful.”

Player of the Year awards for each age group were given out at the conclusion of play with Derek Lemley of Chesapeake winning the 13-15 age group.

“He is a very good players and will continue to get better,” VanDeusen said.

Finishing just behind Lemley in award qualification was Mitch McFarland of Wheelersburg.

“Mitch McFarland is a top notch golfer,” VanDeusen said. “He is a great player.”

Andy Michael of Huntington won this season’s Player of the Year for the 10-12 group and Cam Roam of Huntington took the Player of the Year award for the 16-18 division.

“We have a really good group of young golfers in the area,” VanDeusen said after his first season operating the tour. “It felt great to be part of this and it was very gratifying to see the kids enjoy themselves and to get to know them.”

In the final leg of the tour, Cameron Phillips had the low score of 42 for the 6 and under division and Trevor Mault had a low score of 60 in the 9-year-old division.

Though the 6 and under and the 9-year-old divisions only made a couple appearances on the 2012 tour, VanDeusen says the divisions will be an official part of the tour in the future.

“We are going to make those permanent,” he said. “We have worked it out so that those are definitely in the plans for next year.”

Andy Michael had the low score for the 10-12 division with a 39 out of the first flight.

The 13-15 division was won by Derek Lemley who had a low score of 77.

In the 16-18 division, Michael Salmons shot an 83 for the low score.
