Two South Webster residents have been killed in separate crashes - one in Scioto County and one in Jackson County.

The fourth fatal crash in Scioto County this month has prompted the commander of the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol to issue a warning to motorists. The Portsmouth Post is currently investigating a one vehicle fatal crash on Ohio 140 near mile post 4 in Porter Township. The crash occurred Thursday around 7:57 p.m. Killed was Christopher E. Beesler, 61, of South Webster.

Lieutenant Karla Taulbee said a 2009 Chevy Impala, driven by Beesler, was traveling eastbound on Ohio 140 and went out of control on the wet roadway, sliding off the right side of the roadway striking a tree.

Beesler was pronounced dead at the scene. Kathy L. Beesler, 60, and Jason C. Beesler, 28, both also of South Webster, were passengers in the vehicle and were transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center.

“This is the fourth fatal crash in Scioto County for the month of July. Three of the four were speed related crashes and the fourth was alcohol related.” Taulbee said. “People need to slow down, especially on wet roadways”.

There was another fatal crash on Ohio 140 at the same time, but occurring in Jackson County. In that crash, Malena J. Easter, 27, of South Webster was killed.

According to the Jackson Post of the OHSP, around 8:11 p.m. Thursday, a 1997 Ford Explorer was westbound on Ohio 140 near Ohio 93 in Jackson County, when that vehicle went off the left side of the road, struck a tree and overturned.

Easter was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by mechanical devices. She was pronounced dead at Holzer of Jackson. The Jackson Post reports the driver was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
