CHILLICOTHE — When Post 23 scored in its Sunday afternoon contest with Chillicothe Post 62, crooked numbers were put on the board.

In the third, fourth and seventh innings, Post 23 scored four times each and forced the River Bats into five errors to advance in the loser’s bracket of the District 7 tournament at VA Memorial Stadium with a 12-5 victory. Tonight Post 23 will take on Hillsboro Post 129 for a 6 p.m. first pitch after falling earlier Sunday to Circleville Post 134 4-3 in 10 innings, with the winner taking on the Panthers in the championship series.

Despite only lasting 5 2/3 innings on the mound, Post 23 starter Patrick Riehl help himself out with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate with a triple and four runs batted in. Of the 17 hits recorded by Post 62, nine of them came off Riehl.

The River Bats took a 2-0 lead into the third inning before Post 23 scored four in the top half of the frame. Post 62 tied it up in the bottom half of the inning before four more runs came across the next inning for Post 23 to go up for good.

Along with Riehl’s offensive showcase, Wade Martin finished 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored. The win comes as revenge for Post 23, which lost 13-4 last Saturday at home to the River Bats.
