Holsinger shooting 911 call

The Portsmouth Daily Times received the audio from the 911 call placed by Bob Staker just moments after the shooting of Steve Holsinger. In the audio, Tyler Staker, who Scioto County detectives have identified as the shooter, and Holsinger's wife, Jennifer, can be heard in the background.

My opinion, of course, nothing more: Mr. Staker sounds, at first, shaken...as any person would be who witnessed a tragic event. He does, however, gain composure to ensure the right word(s), not uncommon for any parent. My heart breaks for the poor wife, who is completely distraught and in shock. The law should've been involved from the word "go", two hours of intimidation definitely provoked Mr. Holsinger stepping outside with a weapon, (wouldn't you??) and at what point are 5 shots necessary? If you intend to carry a weapon, there should be some sort of basic knowledge of how to disarm a situation with your weapon instead of killing someone. Easier said than done, I know. I do feel sorry for all parties involved, because each of their lives have been forever changed, in an instant. Hard to say who's wrong or right, no one, except those who were there, know exactly what happened. I do know that I will not patronize the Staker business anymore. If Tyler doesn't get an adequate sentence for ending a life, I think he should, at least, have to be financially responsible for the three Holsinger children, until the age of 18. After all, he did take away their provider. Kudos to the dispatcher, he was completely calm & professional.

This dispatcher was doing his job, which was staying calm and getting the info to send out help. He completed he job perfectly. Staker on the other hand was way to cool for my taste. Also, if you can find your way to a mans home to repo merchandise you are going to be carrying some sort of slip of paper with his info on it. This county has now seen some light, it is NOT "JUSTICE FOR ALL", but "HOW MUCH MONEY and WHO YOU KNOW". In my opinion, it looks as though our good Sheriff may be bending a few laws here, if it were a less wealthy individual in this situation it would be going much differently. Stop and think about it...had it been Holsinger that shot Staker wonder where Holsinger might be sitting now? Things that make you go hmmm? I just hope come election time everyone wakes up and smells the coffee! Time for some change in this county!!

This type of stuff is exactly why i left there 15 years ago to live in Indianapolis, Indiana and have not looked back at all....

Amen to that....I left 13 years ago myself and trust me I will never look back either...between the corrupt system and the drug abuse plus all the crime in that county alone is enough to make one think twice before even going back to visit!!!

I cannot believe the calmness in this person's voice. A man is shot 5 times by your son and you do not even get excited. Also, you sold this man something on credit and you do not know his adress?? After all, this was your second trip out there. If my son shot someone I would be very shook up, but you are not. Screaming at the woman whose husband your son just shot. You are one heck of a businessman, Mr. Staker...And an even better human being...

Tu,

Yes on the address deal. That just shows no one was in charge of the situation, no adult presence there on the part of the Staker's. wow is the rest of the business people in town like that? The city and county governments are!!!

Are you kidding me?? If anybody was to "calm" it was the damn 911 operator! You can't hold someone responsible for defending their father after someone puts a gun in his face & gives them 3 seconds to get! If anyone EVER threaten my father like that...I'd do the same! And there are a lot of us out there that feel the same way! Geez...get real!

Doesn't Scioto County 911 have caller ID? Or was Staker on a cell phone? I would not have any confidence in law enforcement coming when the 911 operator sounds as if he just woke up.

Staker was on a cell phone. The dispatcher didn't just wake up...he's actually a very good dispatcher!
