Tate Bailey’s bases-clearing triple in the fourth helped Post 23 earn a sweep over Athens Post 21 with a 10-1 decision.
Bailey was 2-for-3 with four runs batted in overall, three of them coming off the three-base hit. He also walked and was hit by a pitch.
It was more than enough support for Patrick Riehl, who struck out 13 and did not surrender a walk for his third win in five decisions. Between he and Game 1 starter Derek Moore, the duo combined to strike out 27 Post 21batters while allowing six hits, three earned runs and no walks.
Post 23 has won 10-straight games and 18 of its last 19 contests. Thursday also marked the final time Post 23 would play outside of Scioto County before next weekend’s District 7 Tournament.
Morehead (Ky.) Post 126 will be the first opponent of a six-game, five-day homestand that starts today. The two teams will play a single seven-inning game today at 6 p.m. instead of the 5 p.m. start time reported in the print version of the first game recap.
CJ Burk, Riehl’s teammate at Valley, will take the Branch Rickey mound in the game.
