Passport to Fishing Program

An Ohio Division of Wildlife Passport to Fishing program will be held Friday July 27 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Shawnee State Park Nature Center located at Turkey Creek Lake on State Route 125 in West Portsmouth.

The Passport to Fishing program is part of the Division’s Aquatic Education Program and is designed to teach children 4-17 the basics of fishing including casting, fishing knots and rigging, fish habitat and handling, fish identification and local information for anglers. Those 16 and older wishing to fish must have a current Ohio fishing license.

Upcoming events at American Legion Post 471

Thursday night, Fireplug Bingo 7 p.m. Auxiliary will open the kitchen for concession American Legion Post 471.

Friday night, Bike night ALR will be having a dinner dine in or carry out.

Saturday, Post 471 at 950 Gallia St., Portsmouth, American Legion Riders will be holding The Challenger League Benefit Run. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the District 11 Challenger Baseball League. Donations is being except now until July 13 at Post 471. Make checks payable to District 11 Challenger League. The ride will be Saturday July 14. Sign ups wiil be from 8 to 10 a.m., to make it to the ball field before 11:30 a.m. The cost is $10 per person to ride.

Lenox performs at Museum on Friday

Friday, July 13, Dwight Lenox and his band dish up blues, ballads, jazz, and swing. The concert promises to be a night of standards and originals, performed by an accomplished musician. Lenox has performed throughout the U.S., including performances with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, as well as numerous studio sessions.

The second of the “Cream of the Concerts” series takes place in the Southern Ohio Museum’s Kricker Gallery alongside the “Cream of the Crop” exhibit. The exhibit and concert series celebrate the work of local artists and musicians.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person, $6 per member, student, and senior. Light refreshments will be available in addition to a cash bar. For more information call (740) 354-5629 or visit www.somacc.com.

D-I-Y legal clinic at Portsmuoth Library

The Southeastern Ohio Legal Services (SEOLS) invites the public to attend a do-it-yourself legal clinic concerning domestic relations issues, including custody, visitation, and divorce, in the Robert Copley Room of the Portsmouth Public Library located at 1220 Gallia Street in Portsmouth, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on July 16. Required court forms will be provided at the clinic and court rules concerning the forms will be explained.

Craig J. Opperman P.E., Scioto County Engineer, announced the work schedule for July 12, 2012 through July 13, 2012, for his office.

Guardrail Installation

Lake Erie Construction Company will be installing guardrail on CR-12 – Bennett School House Road in Bloom Township and CR-19 – Kentucky Trail Road in Harrison Township beginning Thursday, July 12th. Traffic will be maintained.
