The Scioto County Commissioners on Tuesday awarded four contracts for improvement projects valued at nearly $2 million. Projects include the replacement of three county bridges — on Kendall Road in Madison Township, Van Crabtree Road in Morgan Township and Simpson Road in Rush Township.

A contract was awarded to DGM Inc. of Beaver, Ohio, for the Kendall Road bridge replacement, valued at $438,000. J&H Erectors was awarded the contract to replace the Van Crabtree Bridge, valued at $201,345. A contract was awarded to U.S. Bridge of Cambridge, Ohio to replace the bridge on Simpson Road, valued at $256,207. The Shelly Company of Thornville, Ohio was awarded at contract to pave part of Carey’s Run Pond Creek Road in Washington Township, Downtown Hayport Road in Porter Township, Junior Furnace-Powellsville Road in Green Township and part of Swauger Valley Road. The contract is valued at $834,328.

“In addition we are working with the village of New Boston to paving Lakeview Avenue and Oak Street,” said Craig Opperman, Scioto County Engineer.

He said the paving in New Boston is being done in conjunction with the opening of the new school.

In total there will be about 8.74 miles of roadway paved.

The project is being funded in-part by a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission, and Opperman said the projects are expected to be completed by the end of November.
