Patrick Riehl held Washington Court House Post 25 hitless through five innings Saturday before exiting in the seventh inning of the single nine-inning contest between the two District 7 members.

Riehl’s offense backed him up enough for his second win of the season as the visiting team from Portsmouth came away with a 14-10 win.

“He was strong early,” Post 23 interim coach Andy Riehl said.

The Valley graduate struck out eight and walked three in six and a third innings of work. He left after allowing three earned runs on six hits.

Offensively, Austin Boyer was 2-for-5 with two doubles, a walk, two runs batted in, two runs scored and a stolen base. He relieved Riehl and finished the game for his second save of the campaign.

Brett Hood, Alex Hartley and Dylan Shockley each led the team with three hits. As a team, Post 23 combined for 19 hits in the game off Aces pitching.

“We swung the bats well and that’s what we’ve got to do in district play,” Andy Riehl said.

Post 25 made its strongest comeback in the seventh, scoring five in the frame to make it a 12-9. In the end, each team was charged with four errors apiece.

“We played pretty well defensively to start the game,” Andy Riehl said.

Post 23 returns home for a doubleheader this afternoon against Chillicothe Post 757. The first of the twin seven-inning contests will start 1 p.m. at Branch Rickey Park.

After today’s games, Post 23 will play Tuesday at Lancaster Post 11, home Wednesday at Waverly Post 142, Thursday at Athens Post 21, home Friday against Morehead (Ky.) Post 126 and home Saturday against Chillicothe Post 62. All of the games except against Post 126 will be two seven-inning affairs.

The games against Post 126 will be a seven inning game followed by a five-inning matchup.
