The State Fire Marshal’s Office in Columbus is asking for help from anyone who may have seen the beginning or early moments of a house fire in Otway.

“We had a fire at 11460 State Route 73 at Otway that we are looking for some information on,” said Shane Cartmill, public information officer for the State Fire Marshal’s Office. “It was Sunday morning, Feb. 8, and the fire occurred at approximtely 6:30 a.m.”

Cartmill said no one was home at the time the blaze broke out.

“Here’s the problem — the fire was discovered after it had almost completely destroyed the home,” Cartmill said. “So it was very difficult for investigators to get in there to investigate because it was a complete loss.”

Cartmill said he turned to the Portsmouth Daily Times to enlist help from the public.

“We’re hoping that someone saw the fire in its earlier stages,” Cartmill said. “So if anyone was in the area at the time of the fire or knows anything about the fire we would appreciate a call.”

Cartmill said the house was a single-family residence and was a total loss.

Cartmill said anyone with information can call 1-800-589-2728.
