A traffic stop in Scioto County has resulted in the arrest of a Lawrence County man on drug charges.

Mark A. Eubanks, 30, of Ironton, is charged with trafficking and possession of heroin, both second degree felonies.

Troopers from the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped a 2001 Cadillac DeVille on U.S. 23, near Lucasville around 6:52 p.m. Wednesday for following too close and marked lanes violations. Troopers said, after approaching the vehicle, they observed “criminal indicators.” The subsequent search of the driver, Eubanks, revealed 15 grams of heroin with an approximate street value of $1,800, and $1,440 cash.

Eubanks was incarcerated in the Scioto County Jail.

As the last pill mill was closed in Scioto County last year, law enforcement began seeing more heroin popping up. With prescription drugs harder to get, drug dealers and illegal drug users are more and more turning to the cheaper heroin.

This past week a raid at the Super 8 Motel on U.S. 23 north in Rosemount resulted in one suspect jumping from a third floor window, and two others taken into immediate custody on drug charges. Upon a search of the room, narcotics detectives said they seized about 47 grams of suspected heroin, digital scales containing suspected heroin residue, an unspecified amount of marijuana, a loaded firearm, and about $1,700 cash. Detectives said Anderson was in possession of suspected heroin and about $2,000 cash, which were seized.
