Ten students from the Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ Vern Riffe School received placement for their posters in the United Commercial Travelers of America (UCT) International Safety Poster Contest. Students from all across the United States and Canada participated, with the winners focusing on such safety issues as the dangers of texting and driving, substance abuse and fire and water safety, received ribbons and cash prizes.

Those who placed first or second at the local level were submitted for state competition. Isaac Breech placed first at the state level and has now moved on to the national level which will be held in Calgary, Canada. Bethany Grate placed second at the local level and third at the state level.

In addition to Breech and Grate, those who received recognition at the local level were: Kali Arnett and Alex Dillow, receiving second place honors; Dustin Adkins, Gabby Collins and Angel O’Rourke, in third place and fourth place finishers Maddi Grashel, Kaylee Maguire and Cameron Watson.

UCT’s annual safety poster contest is open to all individuals with intellectual disabilities who are in special education classes in a public school or parochial school, or in a dedicated facility.
