A log truck overturned, spilling its load into a canal and sending the driver to the hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that Rondal K. Sestes, 50, of Edmonton, Ky., was hauling a load of logs near the Ohio 73/104 split about 8 a.m. Friday in West Portsmouth. He apparently lost control of the truck, which ended up in a nearby canal.

“I can’t believe he’s alive,” said Carla Taulbee, commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Portsmouth Post.

She said Sestes was flown by medical helicopter to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.

A representative at the hospital was not immediately available to comment on Sestes’ condition.

Taulbee said no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The Rush Township Fire Department responded to the accident.

The road was closed to traffic for much of the morning.
