The Christian Outreach Center is inviting area residents to nominate veterans to be honored on Saturday, July 7, at Tracy Park in Portsmouth. Eugene Collins of the Christian Outreach Center said a community veterans appreciation event will feature veterans groups such as Disabled American Veterans Chapter 10, American Legion Post 471 and American Legion Post 23. These groups will be setting up tables to give out literature about their groups, while representatives from the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Clinic will be at the event to give out information to local veterans.

Collins said veterans groups from Minford, Sciotoville and South Shore, Ky., have also been invited to set up tables.

Certificates of appreciation, signed by the commanders of local veterans groups, will be given to each veteran nominated.

“We welcome nominations from anyone in the community,” the news release reads. “We need the service person’s name and the unit they served in.” That information should be in before July 2 to give them time to prepare the certificates.

Nominations may be sent to michael.cox8@va.gov, or by contacting the commanders from any veterans organization, according to the information from the Christian Outreach Center.

The group said music, food and fellowship with other veterans will be the highlights of the event to be held from 3 to 6 p.m.
