Eric Grimm, a senior at Clay High School this fall, has been invited to attend the National Youth Leadership Conference, in Washington, D.C., June 17-25.

Grimm was nominated by Mark Robinson, his social studies teacher at Clay High School.

During the nine-day program, the conference will provide scholars from all across the United States with the opportunity to interact with a variety of personnel who operate within the three branches of government, the news media, and the international community.

To complement the schedule of special meetings and briefings, students will participate in leadership skill-building activities and simulations. In one role-play activity, titled “If I Were President,” students act as the president and Cabinet members responding to an international crisis. The conference culminates with the Model Congress, in which students assume the roles of U.S. representatives and debate, amend and vote on proposed mock legislation.

After high school, Grimm said he plans to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, hoping to be accepted into Officer Candidate School.
