Investigative work by a New Boston Police officer has resulted in the arrest of a Columbus man for receiving stolen property from a Portsmouth business, in addition to a vehicle and a license tag reported stolen in Columbus.

About 6:25 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Diane Davis responded to the Kiwanis Apartment complex to investigate a complaint by the Portsmouth Police Department of possible stolen property in a truck parked in the complex.

P0lice said Mitchell Brothers Tires in Portsmouth reported being burglarized several nights before. Tire rims and other property were reported stolen.

Portsmouth Police also responded to the scene, where a 2004 Dodge truck was parked and property stolen from Mitchell Brothers was recovered from the bed of the truck.

Davis said she found and identified the driver and person who was in possession of the truck, Michael Bashaw, 27, of Columbus, who was in an apartment near the truck. Davis said the truck was reported stolen from Columbus and the license plate was reported stolen and did not belong on the truck.

Bashaw was arrested at the scene on two counts of receiving stolen property, both fourth-degree felonies, and was taken to the New Boston Police Department for booking and later transferred to the Scioto County Jail.

Portsmouth Police will be handling the case for the stolen property from Mitchell Brothers Tire Company and further charges could be filed at a later date.
