Tyler Sanford faced three batters more than the minimum and Brett Hood scored twice as host Post 23 defeated Morehead (Ky.) Post 126 3-0 in the first of a doubleheader Friday.

Sanford struck out six, walked two and allowed one hit as he went the distance on only 87 pitches. His counterpart, Brett McKinley, also threw a complete game but did it in 104 tosses.

Hood drew a one-out walk in the first and Riehl drove him in to give Post 23 the early 1-0 lead. In the third, Hood and Austin Boyer scored on a Tate Bailey single and a Derek Moore fielder’s choice.

The second contest between the two squads, a five-inning affair, was not completed at press time. In between the first and second games, Post 23 coach Jack Branon, who suffered a heart attack a week ago in Columbus, made a brief appearance at the ballpark.

Post 23 will play Waverly Post 142 today at Piketon High School. First pitch of the first contest is slated for noon.

The Daily Times also learned Friday that last Monday’s doubleheader at Athens Post 21 has been moved to July 12. The two seven-inning contests will start at 5 p.m.
