A single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Ohio 73 resulted in serious injury to the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle.

According to Trooper John Howard of the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a van operated by Randall Kidder, 49, of Hillsboro was southbound on Ohio 73, went off the right side of the road, striking and displacing a utility pole. The vehicle then drove over the utility pole. Howard said the van overturned, struck a tree, which peeled the passenger side back to the rear of the van.

Howard said Kidder was flown by medical helicopter to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., where he was reported in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.
