A Portsmouth man is charged with breaking into an area home, an entry in which a Portsmouth woman reported she and her daughter were assaulted.
Fifty-year-old Andrew L. Edwards, known as “Moose Juice,” is charged with aggravated burglary after he reportedly broke out a window and entered an apartment at 1304 Union St. about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, where Edwards reportedly assaulted a woman, who was exercising, and her daughter.
The woman said she didn’t know how the suspect got into the apartment.
“She said he pushed her from the living room area to the kitchen, where he then punched her in the face,” Portsmouth Police Detective Sgt. Jim Charles said. “She said her daughter saw him hit her. He then turned and hit the child in the face.”
According to police, the woman still had a dumbbell in her hand and struck Edwards in the head, leaving blood on the floor of her apartment.
Police said Edwards then ran out the back door before police arrived.
Edwards was arrested about 8:52 p.m. in the 1000 block of Chillicothe Street in Portsmouth. He was treated for head injuries at Southern Ohio Medical Center, where officers said he was extremely uncooperative with emergency room staff. He was then arrested and placed in the Scioto County Jail, where again he was reportedly uncooperative when they attempted to fingerprint him.
