Rosalind Ann “Rosie” Horn, 79, of West Portsmouth, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, May 23, 2012, surrounded by her husband, siblings, and their families, at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born in Sciotoville, Jan. 27, 1933, a daughter of the late Ralph F. and Charlotte Louise Asche Scott.
Rosie was of the Lutheran faith, and she was a 1950 Portsmouth High School graduate. She had attended Ohio University-Portsmouth and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. After returning from her service as a sergeant in the Women’s Army Corps during the Korean War, she was employed as a journalist by the Portsmouth Daily Times for several years. Following this, she was employed as a librarian by the Portsmouth Public Library,where she retired after 25 years of service. While there, Rosie worked in the Children’s Department and on the Bookmobile. Rosie was a master at crafts, and she instilled the love of creativity in the many children and young people in her life. At one time, she had been very active in Girl Scouting, and she had served as head camp counselor at Camp Molly Lauman.
Surviving is her husband, Carl Donald Horn, whom she married in Portsmouth on June 3, 1967; two brothers, H. David Scott of Portsmouth, Ralph F. (Patty) Scott II of Portsmouth; three sisters, Betty J. Dials of West Portsmouth, Edith I. (John) Caudill of West Portsmouth, Virginia L. “Ginger” (Terry) Stevenson of Sciotoville; her special niece, Lisa Dials; and many other loving nieces, nephews and their families; a sister-in-law, Floris Horn Kalb; a brother-in-law, Richard (Shirley) Horn; and her beloved feline family, Fluffy and Boots.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Scott.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Peter Michael officiating, and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Military graveside services will be conducted by the James Dickey Post #23 American Legion honor detail.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m until 10 a.m.
