The Village of New Boston and Daymar College held its second annual First Responders Parade on Thursday afternoon.

“We hold this parade to recognize first responders of the area, for what they do for us and our community,” parade organizer Mike Bell said. “We have about 75 units participating in this year’s parade. Also, within the parade we recognize area veterans as well.”

Bell said it was a natural fit for the village and Daymar to join together. Last year, the village and Daymar held separate activities around Memorial Day.

“This parade is a good things because it brings the whole community together,” New Boston Mayor Jim Warren said. “Area first responders and veterans are deserving of all of this and more.”

A ceremony at Daymar followed the parade and featured several guest speakers, including Warren, Portsmouth Mayor David Malone, Daymar Campus President Rebecca Mowery and Tom Jordan of Charleston, W.Va.
