The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities (SCBDD) on Wednesday appointed Randy Beach of Circleville as interim superintendent.

Beach replaces exiting superintendent Ben Hollinger, who announced in March that he has accepted the position as assistant deputy director for the Division of Policy and Strategic Direction with the Ohio Department of Development Disabilities (DODD).

“Scioto County has a well-known reputation for supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. I am honored to be selected by the Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities to serve in the capacity of interim superintendent during the selection process for a full-time, permanent superintendent,” Beach said.

Beach is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and an alumnus of Ohio University’s Educational Administration Doctoral program. He has served as an officer of the Ohio Association of Superintendent’s of County Boards, served as a board member of the Ohio Association of County Boards of Developmental Disabilities and served as an officer of the Southern Ohio Council of Governments (SOCOG), which also represents Scioto County.

He previously served as superintendent of Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities until June 2011. Since then he has served in the interim capacity, most recently as the interim director of Adult Services for the Vinton County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

“The staff and board have made a commitment to quality services and supports to the individuals of Scioto County. As the interim superintendent a large part of my job will be to allow the board to focus on the very important task of filling the superintendent’s position and provide the necessary administrative guidance to the program so that the services and supports to individuals and their families continue in the same quality manner,” Beach said.

Hollinger will remain as superintendent at SCBDD until the end of May. At that time Beach will assume interim responsibilities while the Board continues its search for a permanent superintendent.
