The owner of a now defunct Scioto County pain clinic and the doctor who worked for him have officially been indicted by a Scioto County grand jury.

George Marshall Adkins, known primarily as Marshall Adkins, 69, of 53 Brouse St., West Portsmouth, faces 44 charges, while Victor Andreai Georgescu, 51, of Mercer, Pa., who, at the time of a raid in December 2011 also had a Wheelersburg address, faces 36 counts.

On Dec. 20, 2011, law enforcement converged on Greater Medical Advance on Ohio River Road in Wheelersburg, led by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini and other law enforcement officials.

It was the last pain clinic to be closed, after the county began the year with nine such facilities.

At the time of the raid Georgescu was simultaneously arrested at his apartment in Centerville. However, Adkins had left the area, and was not taken into custody until he turned himself in several days later, accompanied by his attorney.

The 36 counts against Georgescu are mainly for aggravated trafficking in drugs and trafficking in drugs. Adkins faces similar charges, but he also faces charges of forgery and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn said both have arraignments set for 8:30 a.m. May 23, in the Scioto County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge William T. Marshall.

The pain clinic was padlocked at the time of the raid, and on Dec. 28, a temporary injunction closing the facility was handed down by Judge Howard H. Harcha III before defendants Georgescu and strip mall owners Billy and Katherine Inmon.
