Sister Renata Walch, who once taught in Portsmouth and is a member of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Rochester, Minn., celebrated her Diamond Jubilee on May 10.
Sister Renata, daughter of Edward and Olivia Walch (deceased) of Oak Ridge, Minn., entered the Rochester Franciscan Congregation from the parish of Immaculate Conception in the Winona Diocese in 1952. She received her undergraduate degree in Education from the College of Saint Teresa, Winona, Minn. Sister Renata taught grades 1-9, in Chicago, Ill., Glencoe, Easton, Caledonia, and Currie, Minn., as well Watertown, S.D., and Missoula, Mont. From 1972-1982, Sister Renata taught in Portsmouth schools. In addition to full time teaching, she also served in pastoral care taking Holy Communion to the elderly in their residences for 25 years. She now serves as manager of the card and plant room at Assisi Heights, Rochester, Minn., and enjoys writing letters and sending cards.
