Portsmouth First Church of the Nazarene


Portsmouth First Church of the Nazarene, at Third and Brown streets in Portsmouth


Sunday, May 13, 9:30 a.m. - Sunday School; 10:45 a.m. - Morning Worship with Pastor Brian bringing the morning message. An interpreter for the deaf and hard of hearing is available at all services. We’re also having a food pounding for our Local Compassionate Ministries food pantry. Items needed are: Canned food items, such as: corn, green beans, pork and beans, canned fruit, soup, canned milk, tomato juice, tuna, spaghetti-o’s. Other items such as oriental noodles, bottled water, boxed cereal, boxed mac and cheese, instant potatoes, Sunny D drink, cookies, pinto beans, pancake mix, pancake syrup, egg noodles, stuffing mix, baby diapers, baby food, boxed spaghetti and macaroni; 10:45 a.m. - Bible Island for the children.


Tuesday, May 15, 3-5 p.m. - Local Compassionate Ministries hours are observed.


Wednesday, May 16, 6 p.m. - Wednesday Night Dinner; 7 p.m. - Men’s and Ladies’ Bible Study; 7 p.m. - iLife for Grades 6 - 12; 7 p.m. - iKidz for Grades K - 5


Thursday, May 17, 3 - 5 p.m. Local Compassionate Ministries hours are observed.


McDermott Community of Christ


McDermott Community of Christ will have a guest speaker, Elder Edward Crabtree of West Portsmouth, at the 10:45 a.m. Morning Worship. This service follows Church School, which begins at 9:30 a.m. Opening devotions will be given by Priest Rhonda Morkassel. The church has prayer service on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m., and free lunch for anyone who wishes to partake is held every Thursday from 11 a.m until 1 p.m.


The Evangelical United Church of Christ


The Evangelical United Church of Christ, 701 Fifth St., Portsmouth, invites you to its weekly service Sunday, May 13. At 10 a.m., Rev. Tom Williams will be presenting a sermon entitled “Mary, a model for modern mothers.”


Berean Baptist Church


Berean Baptist Church Winchester and Bloom Sciotoville Sunday School 9:30 a.m.; Worship Service 10:40 a.m.; Evening Service 6 p.m.


Wednesday Prayer Service 7 p.m. with the Wednesday Night Kids Club (WNKC) and Teen Time


Bus Ministry Visitation each Saturday at 11 a.m.


Missionary Russ Huff will be bringing the message in both the Morning Worship Service at 10:40 a.m. and the Evening Service at 6 p.m. Juanita Sluder and her daughter, Cheryl Porter, will be singing a duet in the Morning Worship Service at 10:40 a.m. and Carol Southworth and her daughter, Becky Hickman, will be singing a duet in the Evening Service at 6 p.m. Special recognition will be given to every single mother present in the Morning Worship Service and each will be given a “special gift” at the end of the service.


Special missionaries for this week will be Rick and Becky Martin serving in the Philippines and supported by Berean since 02/01/1991.


Special recognization of Anniversary will be Russ and Sherry Fankell on May 15.


Scheduled Nursery Workers are Sharon Rawlins, Lawana Whitt and Avanelle Pierce.


There are Sunday School Classes for all ages and a Nursery provided with skilled workers to assist with infants.


North Moreland Christian Baptist Church


Breakfast is served every Sunday morning 8:30-9:30 a.m. Sunday School 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pastor Paul Hagen. Super Church Pastor Chris Meenach 10:30 a.m. until noon. Morning Worship Service 10:30 a.m. until noon. Evening Worship Service 6 p.m. Wednesday Prayer Meeting Service 7 p.m. Childrens Bible Club, Wednesday, 7 p.m. Youth Meeting, Thursday, 6 p.m. with Ed Zeno.


First Church of Christ


The First Church of Christ will hold its youth fundraiser Saturday, May 12, from 8 a.m. until noon on the parking lot of the First Church of Christ, 1224 Dogwood Ridge Road, Wheelersburg. COLTS luncheon and meeting will be noon Tuesday, May 14, at Ponderosa in Wheelersburg. Helping Hands, the ladies group, will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the church annex. Also, during May, items to be collected for Operation Christmas Child will include bars of Ivory soap and wash clothes.For a list of items need for Vacation Bible School, see Brenda Wickham.
