The River Days Pageant Committee held a Princess Tea on Monday evening at the SOMC Friends Center to raise money for the River Days Pageant.

According to Patricia Dingus, River Days Pageant director, the Princess Tea was the first fundraiser of its kind for the organization.

“We have the 2012 contestants and our 2011 winners dressed up as different princesses. We have different booths the girls can visit, which include story time and crafts,” Dingus said.

She said the pageant committee raised about $1,000 at the event, which will help increase the scholarship given to the winner and help to defray the cost of the pageant.

“This is the first year for something like this and it looks as if it has turned out to be a nice event. All of the money raised will go toward the pageant,” said Trent Williams, chairman of the River Days Festival. “They need all the money they can get to pull off a nice event each year.”

Dingus said the 2012 Miss River Days Pageant will take place on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Vern Riffe Center For the Arts.
