The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office was withholding the name of a woman killed in an ATV wreck on Monday, pending notification of the next of kin.
Sheriff Jeff Lawless said his office received a call of an ATV accident in the 2600 block of County Road 55 about 11:54 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival deputies found that a male subject had been driving the ATV with a female companion as a passenger, when he attempted to climb a hill in a wooded area of private property. At the top of the hill, Lawless said, the wheels began to spin in mud. The ATV then flipped over backward, rolling over the female.
Lawless said the Lawrence County EMS came to the scene but were unable to revive the female passenger. The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office was also at the scene and pronounced her dead a short time later.
The male operator of the ATV was reportedly not injured in the accident.
The crash is under investigation.
