New Boston Schools to hold open enrollment meeting

The New Boston Local School District will hold its open enrollment meeting for all Scioto County students for the 2012-2013 school year on Thursday, May 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the Glenwood High School Auditorium.

New Boston Schools set kindergarten registration

New Boston Local School District will have its pre-school and kindergarten registration from 9 a.m until noon and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Stanton Primary School 3800 Stanton Ave., New Boston.

Parents are to bring the following information: birth certificate; custody papers, if applicable; child’s Social Security Card; and immunization records.

Preschool requirements include: Children are eligible to attend pre-school if they are 3 years old by Sept. 30, 2011, and completely toilet trained.

A child is not eligible if they turn 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2011.

Each child will be required to have a physical and dental examination. Forms will be available for both.

ECE Programs are income based; therefore you must provide proof of income at registration. Income levels 200 percent and below on the federal poverty guidelines have priority, but they fill any remaining slots from the enrollment selection criteria form (completed at registration time).

Anti-bullying workshop set for OUS

Teen dating violence, bullying, school bus and school climate and cyber safety are the topics that will be discussed at the Ohio University Southern Council for Diversity and Cultural Enrichment workshop that will be held at Ohio University Southern on May 4.

All public school administrators, counselors, teachers and members of the community are invited to attend the event entitled “Changing the Climate and Creating Success in Our Schools” The workshop will be held in the Bowman Auditorium at Ohio University Southern in Ironton from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday, May 4.

“This event will address the non-academic needs of students to reduce risk behaviors and provide a safe and supportive learning environment for the 21st century,” said Adam Fry, OUS interim coordinator for the office of Disability & Career Services.

The workshop will be led by representatives from The Ohio Department of Education, The Ohio Department of Health, The Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, and The Ohio Mental Health Network for School Success. This event is free and open to the public. Attendees may earn CEU credit through eLearning Ohio (CEU Credit Cost is $30). Lunch will be provided. To register, visit www.southern.ohiou.edu/bullying.
